Solomon Trimble came to this shoot carrying real tradition. He’s been a Grass Dancer since he was three years old, and sang with The Young Spirit Singers growing up, long before Twilight cast him as Sam Uley.

The ceremonial dress carries specific meaning too: the leatherwork, the beading, the feathers, all tied to Mescalero Apache tradition.

This wasn’t planned. He was just downtown in Portland in full ceremonial dress, and I got to photograph it: tradition walking through the middle of the city.
